Evergreen Woodworkers Guild

Greetings to all members of the Evergreen Woodworkers Guild.

The guild has taken on a community service project called EMPTY BOWLS.

Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger.  The basic premise is simple:  Potters, turners, and other craftspeople work to create handcrafted bowls.  Guests are invited to a simple meal of soup and bread.  In exchange for a cash donation, guests are asked to keep a bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.  The money raised is donated to an organization working to end hunger.

Our Guild’s Vice President, Jerry Wheeler, did not have to look far to find an empty bowls project right here in Auburn.   The Auburn Food Bank is hosting an Empty Bowls project on May 17^th, 11 am to 2 pm at the Grace Community Church, 1320 Auburn Way South.

This is a good community project and a great way to practice your turning skills.

Feel free to create something unusual.   Burn, scratch, whittle, write or tape your

“Handcrafted by:                     “ on the bowl.   We will gather the bowls together at the April 11^th and May 9^th EWWG meetings, and deliver them to the Auburn Food Bank on the 16^th.

This  is also a good way to let the community know of our Guild.
