The Woodturners of Olympia have announced their second annual symposium.
This year they feature a truly outstanding line up of woodturners. Bonnie Klein, Eric Loftstrum, Dave Schweitzer and Dan Ackerman will present July 26th at the American Legion Hall, 3201 Boston Harbor Road in Olympia. The charge is $50 per person ($10 for accompanied minors) and includes lunch if you act quickly.
To get more information or to sign up visit their 2008 Symposium page. (This will leave the EWWG Blog).
Jerry Wheeler, the EWWG president, will be presenting on veneering techniques. Here is what Jerry says about his presentation…
The Guild put on an all-day workshop on veneering a few years ago and had a person from Everett come down and teach it. Right afterwards, I got some veneering supplies and started doing it. I have made a dozen or so veneered boxes, samples of which I will have at the May meeting. I also veneered part of a large wine cabinet I built. I have read a couple books on veneering. I participated in the October symposia on veneering but I am not an expert. However, I believe I know enough to present the basics of veneering so anyone could get started on their own.
You can bet you will learn a lot about veneering. The doors will open at 6:30 pm. Bring your show and tell items and lots of questions for Jerry.

Thanks to all of the Guild members who volunteered at the EWWG booth at this years Woodworking Show. There were lots of great items on the table and lots of people who stopped by and asked about the Guild. Many guild members, myself included, first learned of the Guild from the booth at a woodworking show. So, thanks again to all of the volunteers and to Anne Vukovich for coordinating this year.
Here are the pictures…including some of the new combination jointer / planer machines by Jet and Laguna.
