“This can be done using wood” was what I told my wife Donna while admiring a photo rendition she had done in cloth.

That was 3 years ago and a lot has happened since. Within the woodworking community you can find countless resources to build just about anything… but creating photographs from wood was uncharted territory. I had no intention of exhibiting or even showing my work but Donna suggested we enter a juried art show. We did and won best in show, since then we have responded to speaking engagements and show invitations.

As artists we must connect with the visual and physical senses of our viewers. They must see and feel what we feel. There has to be harmony. Like good music where we cannot help but tap our toes to a compelling beat. My favorite work is sending a subtle message to the viewer. Picture in your mind a girl sitting on a suitcase, by the side of the road, with an arm around her dog and one can conjure up a litany of possible scenarios.

I have always been happiest when making things, and that started when I was eight years old in my father’s garage in West Seattle. Some of my best work has come from experiments gone wrong… My woodshop teacher in high school said “I don’t care how many projects you fail at, I care about how many you attempt.” It takes courage to risk destroying a woodworking project in an attempt to make it great. My basement studio is a bone yard testament to visions that came up short.

I appreciate your interest in my work. I try to dream my goals and write them down… it is astounding how dreams become reality. Within you lies the creativity for an award winning project… you need only locate it and bring it to the surface. If you don’t, it’s like winking at a girl in the dark because only you will notice. Do not go where the path may lead but go instead where there is no path and leave a trail—Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hi everybody, Roger Goad here announcing that October 15, 16 and 17 we will be offering the American Longbow class, starting at 9:00 am running until 3:00 pm each day.

“The American Longbow is one of the fastest, quietest and most accurate bows ever built from natural materials. It certainly is the most beautiful. In building this bow you will learn the technique of tillering and the mystery of the archers’ paradox.”

Just send an email or give us a call at 253-230-0391 to sign up. If no one answers, just leave a message and we will get back to you. Our new building is in Bonney Lake and is an easy drive from Tacoma, Seattle, Bellevue, Olympia, Sumner and Puyallup.

Price is $420 but if you bring another paying person to class I’ll knock $100.00 off the cost of the class.

Here’s hoping we see you in class soon!
