The following website is a veritable treasure of articles on every woodworking subject imaginable.
http://www.woodcraft.com/search/searcharticles.aspx
Click the link and you will be transported to the home page of Woodcraft’s collection of articles which include the one from which Billy Baugh, our speaker for the April 2008 meeting copied and passed out his handout on various sharpening stones.
Type in the major topic as precisely as you can and the search engine will produce a list of articles from which to choose. For this instance, I entered “sharpening stones” and the search brought up:
Bench Stones: Answers to Some Gritty Questions – For fine edges, use the right type and shape of bench stones when sharpening your tools.
Care And Use of Waterstones – Synthetic waterstones are more consistent in sizing and quality than are natural stones, and are more readily available at more moderate cost.
DMT DuoSharp Plus Diamond Stones – In this article DMT DuoSharp Plus Diamond Stones are reviewed.
Easy Oil Stone Use – Oil stones generally are a little less finicky in use than are waterstones, though the mess tends to be harder to clean up.
Sharpening Stones Comparison – This chart compares the advantages and disadvantages of different sharpening stone materials.
Color added for impact by me
The links in the example above are still hot [use the “Ctrl” key], so check out the last one. In addition, once you find the article you are looking for, you can print or possibly even copy and paste it to your own file. The handout from our speaker was simply a direct print using the browser on his computer.
If you wanted to take the hard line and start at the top, go to www.Woodcraft.com, however, I did try that approach and was finally able to find the link, by typing “search articles” in the Search box in the upper left of the Woodcraft window, just under their main menubar. That took me to another unwanted page, but in the left column, there was a heading that looked like the display below. Click on “Search Articles” and you are there. Links below are hot too.
This entire library of articles takes 24 screens to review all the possible articles they have in the catalog at this time [May 2008].
Who knows what you will find there. I found a pretty good article on dust collection systems by Anatole Birkin, but did not have time to read all the articles, so happy searching!!
