What is it? Power-tool racing.
Taking off: Power-tool racing, according to PowerToolRacer.com, is coming into its own. Upcoming events in Seattle and Olympia are just the beginning of the 2008 season. Power-tool racing fever has hit San Francisco, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, too.
It’s a drag: If you can create a mobile machine out of one or two handheld power tools, you’ve got what it takes to become a power-tool racer. Your racer just needs to (safely) make its way down a 50-foot-long, 12-inch-wide wooden track. Usually, race coordinators will provide extension cords and 110-volt AC power, but you’re free to supply your own alternative power source.
